COME MEET THE TEAM!
THE CALYPSO TEAM
We believe great companies thrive on great staff members, and we are proud to have a team of highly experienced diving instructors from many different European countries. Most of our friendly and cheerful team members are multi-lingual and may even speak your language, plus all of them are very enthusiastic about diving.

GEORGE

Director
When George decided to give up his "proper" job in 1985 and came up with the idea to open a diving centre, many locals called him crazy. He proved them wrong.
With his ingenuity and commitment he made Calypso Diving Centre a success story.
"Papa George” is always approachable for any matters our guests or the team may have, and even though he has been living with his family in Switzerland for a few years now, he will always remain the core of the dive centre.

TOM (HOLLE)
Owner
Tom (yes, another one!) started his diving life off the island of Menorca at the age of seven. A cylinder, regulator, weights, ABC, that's all you needed to scuba at this time.
After a business life in Germany and thousands of dives worldwide later, he turned his passion into a profession. First as a diving instructor, later as a dive centre manager in various countries. But all the years Tom’s goal remained to have his own small, charming dive centre one day.
Now he has found it! By a lucky coincidence and a very friendly acquaintance with “Papa George”, the founder of Calypso, the dive centre has confidently been handed over into Tom's hands on
1st January 2022.
You can now meet our “new” Tom here most of the time whilst George will still be with us every now and then.

JEN
Shop Assistant & PADI Dive Instructor
Jen has joined us in summer 2022 and has quickly settled in with Calypso. With her warm and kind manner she takes great care of our dive guest's needs, whether they want to buy a new mask or need some help with choosing the right diving course.
Jen made her first introductory dive at the age of eight and fell so deeply in love with the underwater world that she later studied marine biology and became a research diver.
She has been living in Gozo since 2018 and possibly loves dogs even more than fishes!

CHRIS
SSI Dive Instructor
Chris, loves many things in his life, first and foremost his dog "Mii Dum," a former street dog from Thailand. He also enjoys good food, wine, and cigars, but at the top of his list is the love for the underwater world.
He discovered his passion for diving during a vacation in Thailand in 2016 and didn't hesitate to complete his entire training to become a diving instructor.
Chris loves teaching and introducing the underwater world to anyone who wants to explore it. His open and understanding nature makes him a compassionate instructor for people with fears or reservations.

SHAUN
SSI Dive Instructor
Shaun got into diving more or less by chance – in 2020, he found himself stuck on a small island in the Philippines during the COVID pandemic. With plenty of time on his hands, he decided to dive in – literally!
Fast forward to 2023: back home in Malta, he quit his office job as a finance manager to swop the office to outdoors, and set off to travel – and that’s when he truly plunged into the underwater world. Shaun completed his Divemaster training in Indonesia, followed by his instructor course in Thailand.
He loves teaching and meeting new people – but above all, he loves the ocean. Being a dive instructor is the perfect way for him to combine his passion for diving with his enthusiasm for teaching and sharing knowledge.

JOSETTE
PADI Master Diver Trainer & Shop Assistant
Josette is a true Gozitan and has been working on and off for Calypso already since 1999!
She actually works in a different sector, but helps out at the dive centre whenever she is free.
Josette has been a mermaid in her former life, and being underwater is natural to her since child hood. Our guests love her for her kind and professional attitude, good sense of humour and knowledge of the island both under- and above water.
What Josette really enjoys most about being a dive instructor and guide is to open a new world of possibilities to people, and to help achieve confidence and trust in their abilities.

TABASCO
Our former Shop Mascot
Tabasco was the most faithful team member and looked well after the shop, and mummy Tanja. Having been a stray dog before Tom & Tanja adopted him, he used to be a bit shy, but with some kind words he would come out of his bed for a cuddle.Even if half Labrador he probably was the only hydrophobic member of our team ever!
Sadly he passed away in October 2025, but will be remembered by us forever.
